State Hate

Now that we have celebrated the founding of the United States…let’s turn ourselves against one another.

That was sort of the premise of something I found on the Internet. Apparently a fellow with many Instagram followers across the country asked them to tell him where they lived, and what state their home state hated. Obviously not scientific, and sort of a waste of time, but he compiled the results and even made a color-coded graphic.

According to that, Iowa hates Nebraska. It used to be that Iowa hated Minnesota…but apparently “Iowa Nice” means we shouldn’t kick them when they’re down—and they are. And fittingly, since Iowa hates Nebraska—Nebraska hates Iowa. No other state hates either Iowa or Nebraska, so that shows you it’s a Hatfield/McCoy-type feud.

California hates Texas; so do the Lone Star State’s neighbors of Oklahoma and New Mexico. Neighboring states hating on one another makes sense—after all Texas hates Oklahoma. California no doubt hates Texas because they are losing so many companies and citizens to them.

But this was somewhat interesting—California was the most hated state, and it’s not even close. All of their neighbors hate them, and then some. California is hated by the entire western United States—Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. That’s nine states. And I worry if I don’t keep up mowing my lawn.

California’s so-called leaders would say it’s jealousy. I’m thinking probably not.

Finally, according to type, there’s New Jersey—where respondents said they hate everyone.
