A search warrant from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office details a former Solon High School teacher, Joel Foreman, allegedly engaged in sexual behavior with two of his students. Solon’s school district confirms Foreman worked for the district up until 2022. According to a search warrant, one student claims he sexually assaulted her during her high school years of 2016-2020. Another student claims he had sex with her between the years of 2007-2011. In a statement to TV9, the district says it began an investigation after receiving a complaint and placed him on administrative leave in mid-November 2022. The district approved his resignation later that month. The Iowa Board of Education Examiners permanently revoked his license in December 2022. So far, no criminal charges have been filed yet against Foreman.
Right now, there are seven state beaches in Iowa that the DNR recommends that swimmers not dive into because of high e-coli levels. Three of those beaches are here in Eastern Iowa. They include Backbone Beach at Backbone State Park in Delaware County, Pleasant Creek Beach at Pleasant Creek State Recreation Area in Linn County, and Lake Darling Beach in Washington County.
State Highway 21 near Victor is back open nearly two weeks after a deadly crash between a train and semi. Iowa State Patrol says the semi failed to yield at a railroad crossing. The driver’s son, 14-year-old Robert Orton, was killed in the crash. The crash derailed two power engines and 17 rail cars, significantly damaging the tracks.
A new report says many full time workers in Iowans are still struggling to afford basic needs. The so-called “ALICE report” from the United Way shows one in three households in East Central Iowa falls below what’s called its Survival Threshold. The report says that totals more than 44,000 households across Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jones and Linn counties.
The Iowa National Guard announced that the final five soldiers deployed to the Middle East are back in the U.S. The guard says these troops had been supporting Operation Spartan Shield and that a ceremony honoring their service will be held at a later date.
