WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – An 18-year-old man was hospitalized with serious injuries after a shooting early Sunday morning. Waterloo Police was dispatched to 3605 Canterbury Court at approximately 3:38 a.m. Sunday for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found a victim who had sustained gunshot injuries. He was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for serious injuries. Police said the incident appears to be isolated and there is no active threat to the community. The investigation is ongoing. SHELBY COUNTY, Iowa (WOWT/KCRG) – An Iowa man is dead after a crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV north of Harlan. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, the crash happened just before 3 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of County Road F32 and Highway 59. An initial investigation showed that a 2017 Chevy Equinox and a motorcycle crashed. The driver of the motorcycle, 63-year-old Francis Rueschenberg, died from his injuries. Rueschenberg was from Westphalia, Iowa. Investigators found that the Equinox was north on Highway 59 and about to turn west onto the County Road at the time of the crash. The motorcycle was driving south on the highway.
CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – An Arizona man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, one year after he was arrested with more than 100 pounds of the drug. Federal officials say Raul Misael Lopez Murrieta, 23, delivered approximately 30 pounds of methamphetamine in May 2025 to Richard Allen Tuan Casey, 37, of Coralville, according to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing. In July 2025, law enforcement stopped Lopez Murrieta on I-80 in Dallas County and found approximately 117 pounds of meth in the tires of a vehicle he was towing. Lopez Murrieta admitted he was compensated for transporting methamphetamine from Arizona to the Midwest for distribution. Casey is scheduled to be sentenced June 24 following his plea to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine, and use of a communication facility.
LE MARS, Iowa (DAKOTA NEWS NOW/KCRG) – Le Mars Fire Rescue responded to a report of a barn fire in rural Le Mars late Sunday, May 31. Crews were dispatched to the fire at 26132 Marble Avenue at 11:34 p.m. on Sunday, which is located south of Le Mars. Once on the scene, crews found heavy fire coming from the front of the building and the roof of the chicken barn. Firefighters began efforts to extinguish the fire with one hose through the front west door and another hose through the roof. Once the fire was extinguished, crews stayed on scene for three hours and conducted an extensive overhaul and ventilation of the building. The fire is believed to have started on the main floor of the building, spreading through the attic above a double-layer tin ceiling and insulation. The cause of the fire was determined to be an accidental electrical fire from a heat lamp. The chickens inside the barn were lost in the fire. The total cost of damages to the building and loss of contents inside is approximately $100,000. The buildings on either side of the barn were not damaged, but the barn is now unusable.
