Rising fuel prices and global tensions are once again putting a spotlight on domestic energy options, including higher ethanol blends like E15.
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says situations impacting global oil markets serve as a reminder of why expanding American energy production remains important.
Naig says that includes an all-of-the-above approach, where renewable fuels play a key role alongside traditional energy sources.
He says expanding access to E15 can also provide immediate relief for drivers, especially during periods of higher fuel prices.
Despite those benefits, Naig says frustration continues over the lack of permanent federal action to allow year-round E15 sales nationwide.
While temporary measures like emergency waivers can expand access in the short term, Naig says they do not provide the certainty needed across the fuel industry.
He says a long-term solution must come through congressional action to make year-round E15 access permanent.
Looking beyond Iowa, Naig says the impact of expanded E15 access could be even greater on a national scale.
Naig says increasing ethanol use not only benefits consumers through lower fuel costs but also supports demand for corn and strengthens the rural economy.
