IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says an officer was cut while arresting a man who threatened to shoot police. That man is now facing child endangerment charges as police say three children were in the home where this happened. A criminal complaint says police were called to a report of a domestic dispute. The caller said 24-year-old David Torres was threatening them and may have had a knife. When police arrive at the home in Iowa City, the officer says Torres declined orders to lie on the ground. Authorities say he then ran inside and shut the door, threatening to shoot police if they came inside. The complaint says three children under Torres’ care were in the home while this was happening. Torres let two of the children out, police say. Torres later came to the door to confront officers. The complaint says he tried to go back inside but was incapacitated by a taser and taken into custody; that’s where an officer was cut on the arm.

JOHNSTON, Iowa (KCRG) – Communities gathered Saturday to remember the lives of two Iowa soldiers who were killed in an Iranian attack in Kuwait. Major Jeffrey O’Brien of Waukee and Staff Sergeant Declan Coady of West Des Moines died on March 1 in the early days of the war with Iran. They were among six soldiers who died in the attack. All of them were part of the 103rd Sustainment Command based in Des Moines. Loved ones gathered for services for Coady in Johnston. Crandall Gall read a reflection from the family and shared how he impacted those around him. “Through everything, Declan stayed positive. He always had a smile or a smirk and it’s hard to remember a time when he was truly negative. Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve come to realize just how much that quality was seen and felt by everyone who knew him,” Gall said. In West Des Moines, family and loved ones gathered for services for O’Brien. One veteran who spoke said he will always remember his friend. “He made a lasting impression on me, not just as a colleague, but as a friend. And judging by the number of people in here today, he made that lasting impact on so many others,” the veteran said. In a recorded message, Samira O’Brien described her father as someone who was always there for her.
