From the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:

Funeral services are scheduled for this weekend for the two Iowa servicemen who were killed in the opening hours of the War with Iran. Services for Major Jeffrey O’Brien are set for Saturday in West Des Moines. And services for Sergeant Declan Coady will be on Saturday in Johnston. They were both killed in an Iranian drone strike on March 1.

The Johnson County Board of supervisors has decided Clear Creek Amana School District will not be getting a school resource officer. The board voted down a contract that would have allowed a Johnson County deputy to be an SRO for the district. This decision overrides the Clear Creek Amana school board, which unanimously approved getting an SRO. This is the second time the board has voted down the district getting an armed officer to patrol Clear Creek Amana schools. The first time was back in 2018.

Time is running out at the Iowa Capitol. Friday marks a key deadline that determines which bills survive, and right now, some of the biggest ones are stalling. To move forward, a bill has to pass one chamber and clear a full committee in the other. Lawmakers came into this session focused on three big issues: eminent domain, the state budget, and property tax reform. But none of those are close to being finished right now. The session is scheduled to end April 21, but lawmakers can keep working past that date.

Expect slowdowns on Interstate 380 between Iowa City and Cedar Rapids starting today. The Iowa DOT says, weather permitting, I-380 traffic will be switching to what’s called a “head to head” configuration at Penn Street. It’s the latest in the multi-million dollar, multi-year construction project to improve the Interstate. The work at this portion of I-380 at Penn Street is scheduled to last until October.

And the Boyson Road interchange at Interstate 380–an all new diverging diamond interchange–will open soon. But first, Boyson Road will be closed overnight Sunday starting at 9 p.m. between North 12th Avenue to Center Point Road. That includes all ramps. Weather permitting, the work will be done by 6 o’clock Monday morning. Construction crews will install pavement markings, install final signing, and activate traffic signals for the interchange.
