Federal movement on year-round E15 access remains uncertain as February winds down, leaving biofuels supporters waiting for clearer direction from Congress. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says frustration is growing among ethanol advocates who believed momentum was building toward a legislative fix.

Naig says supporters continue to view year-round E15 access as a straightforward policy change that could benefit both consumers and rural economies.

Naig says while many in agriculture see the proposal as common sense, resistance from some refining interests continues to complicate negotiations on Capitol Hill. Earlier discussions between the biofuels and petroleum industries had raised hopes for compromise, but lawmakers have yet to finalize an agreement.

Despite the delays, Naig says there is still optimism that Congress can move the issue forward. He notes that the president has indicated support for a legislative solution, but uncertainty remains around when lawmakers may take action.

Naig says agriculture groups will continue working with Iowa’s congressional delegation and industry partners to push for a resolution. Supporters argue that year-round E15 access would provide greater fuel choice for consumers while supporting corn demand and rural economies. For now, he says advocates remain focused on keeping the conversation moving forward as Washington debates the next steps.
