CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – The University of Northern Iowa is mourning the loss of football player Parker Sutherland. In a statement, UNI said he passed away Saturday morning after suffering a medical episode. Sutherland graduated from Iowa City High in 2025 and was the team’s tight end during his freshman season.

 

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Gov. Reynolds and state health leaders have launched the Health Care Professional Incentive Program, an $8 million initiative aimed at recruiting and retaining medical providers in underserved areas. The program targets nine health care professions, including physicians, nurses, therapists, and mental health counselors, in 36 underserved counties across the state. The program aims to improve access to quality care “while also easing the financial burden for individuals pursuing these essential, high-need health care careers,” Reynolds said. Participants can receive incentives for up to five years for full-time employment and seven years for part-time employment. Applicants must be licensed to practice and employed in one of 36 identified counties: Adair, Adams, Allamakee, Appanoose, Benton, Buena Vista, Butler, Carroll, Cedar, Chickasaw, Clarke, Clayton, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Fremont, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Iowa, Keokuk, Lucas, Lyon, Madison, Mills, O’Brien, Osceola, Pocahontas, Ringgold, Tama, Taylor, Wayne, Winnebago and Worth. The application deadline is March 31.

 

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Falls police arrested a 21-year-old Julian Lamp on assault charges following an early morning incident that prompted a shots fired call. Police were dispatched to the 500 block of West 12th Street at 2:15 a.m. Saturday with a report of possible shots fired. Officers found a spent casing and made contact with numerous people at the scene. After an initial investigation, officers charged Lamp with assault with a dangerous weapon and reckless use of a firearm. The case remains under investigation.

 

FAIRFAX, IOWA (KCRG) — An electric golf cart sparked a garage fire Friday night in the 400 block of East Southview Road, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s Office. First responders got to scene at 9:11 p.m. Saturday. Crews found an attached garage on fire. Fire crews limited the fire damage to the garage, though the home sustained smoke damage. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office said the fire is believed to have started from an electric golf cart parked in the garage. No injuries were reported.
