DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – A Des Moines man is charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left a man injured Monday. 19-year-old Treighten Kush was arrested Tuesday. Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of E. McKinley Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Monday. Officers found a man who was grazed by a bullet after multiple shots were fired. Police allege Kush fired the shot that injured the man. Investigators expect to make an additional arrest but have not identified other suspects.
CALHOUN COUNTY, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – One person died and dozens were injured in a northern Iowa crash involving the Iowa Lakes Community College baseball team bus Wednesday morning in Calhoun County. The single-vehicle crash occurred on Iowa Highway 4 near 220th Street, just west of Twin Lakes, shortly before 11:30 a.m. Police say the bus went off the roadway and turned over in the ditch. The Iowa State Patrol says one person died in the crash as of 2:30 p.m. Two people were airlifted to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, and 10 others were taken to a local hospital, according to UnityPoint Health. The conditions of the injured have not been released at this time. Iowa State Patrol Trooper Paul Gardner told KCCI that 33 people were on board during the crash and all sustained minor to severe injuries. No victims have been identified at this time. The crash remains under investigation. The team was scheduled to play against North Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas, on Thursday.
FAYETTE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says a man from Onslow is facing multiple charges following a stolen car chase Tuesday night. The Fayette County Jail is holding Jacob Ahlrichs, 39, on felony charges of Eluding – Speed 25+ Over Limit, and 2nd-Degree Theft. He is also charged with reckless driving and interference with official acts. A deputy located a suspicious SUV on T Avenue in Oelwein after receiving a call around 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Office said the deputy tried to stop the vehicle when it sped away. The Sheriff’s Office looked up the license plate of the silver Chevy Captiva and learned that it was stolen. Authorities pursued the vehicle for 20 miles, with the car speeding over 90 miles per hour. The car got stuck in the snow outside a home in West Union, and the driver, later identified as Ahlrichs, ran away. The deputy said he chased Ahlrichs and tased him after he failed to listen to commands. The West Union Police Department assisted with the arrest. Ahlrichs is being held on $5,000 cash bond. Officials say more charges are pending as investigation continues.
DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau/KCRG) – Nearly 250 Iowa National Guard soldiers returned home Wednesday from deployment in the Middle East, reuniting with families at two ceremonies in Des Moines and Sioux City. The soldiers are part of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, which was deployed in May as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led international military campaign to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The celebration was bittersweet, as hundreds of soldiers remain overseas. About 1,800 were deployed last May. This is the first wave of soldiers to return home from the deployment.
