Dubuque Police released the names of the two people killed outside a downtown bar on Sunday. Police say they witnessed 28-year-old Jaiodrick Lovely shoot 29-year-old Corey Wilson Jr. outside Odd Fellows bar. An officer then fired their weapon at Lovely, who retreated into the bar. Both men were pronounced dead later at the hospital. State Division of Criminal Investigation officers are investigating the officer-involved shooting as Dubuque Police investigate what led up to the incident.
The man accused of shooting at officers in Linn County after a carjacking in Cedar Falls is now out of the hospital. The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says Samuel Reese III stole the car. A chase with deputies started on I-380. Deputies say Reese started firing at officers with a rifle before losing control of the vehicle. Deputies say he fled into a field and started shooting at officers again. That’s when deputies returned fire, shooting him and taking him into custody. No officers were hurt. Reese now faces a series of felony charges including the attempted murder of a peace officer, assault, and eluding.
One person died in a crash in rural Black Hawk County. It happened at an intersection south of Dunkerton at around 7:45 Tuesday morning. The Iowa State Patrol says a car pulled out in front of a semi, sending both vehicles into the ditch. The car’s driver died. Their name has not been released. The semi’s driver was not hurt.
The Marion City Council may issue a letter of support for a program that supports revitalizing homes. The Marion Economic Development Corporation wants $1.5 million from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. A housing study in 2022 found that 43 percent of buildings in surveyed neighborhoods require major structural repairs. It also found preserving older housing stock was more cost-effective.
Iowa fans can now reserve their Kinnick Stadium seats for the 2026 Hawkeye football season. Over the past four years, every home game has sold out. The renewal deadline is March 31.
