How Bad Is It?
Just how bad is the fraud situation in Minnesota? Bad enough that only a couple of weeks after news of it hit national news outlets, the incumbent governor dropped his bid for re-election.
That makes me wonder—just how much else is there to find? You have to assume that Gov. Tim Walz knows more about it than we do; after all, there have been investigations on the topic throughout his time in office. None of that came to light in the formerly-mainstream media last year, when Walz was the Democrat vice-presidential candidate.
No, we were treated to puff pieces about his resume-inflated football coaching experience—recall the placards they handed out at the first rallies, with “Coach” on them—and his international travels—until that also was resume-inflated.
And many have yet to address the actual fraud; instead, outlets sympathetic of Walz and his party have attacked the individuals exposing the fraud, rather than the state’s multi-year investigation of it—or, heaven forbid, the fraudsters themselves. Part of that avoidance by those news outlets is because to pay attention to Walz now means it exposes their failure to investigate him in 2024 as he sought to be a heartbeat away from the presidency.
The pressure is on for an outsider to take his place; not a real outsider, of course, but someone not tied to state government currently. That’s where the pressure comes for U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar to move back home and make the run. She was just re-elected to another term in the Senate in 2024, so even if she runs for governor and loses…perhaps to Republican Mike Lindell of My Pillow fame…she will still keep her Congressional seat. And if she runs and wins, she can appoint a fellow Democrat to replace her.
Klobuchar learned a lot during her 2020 presidential run, turning a super long-shot into a fifth place finish in Iowa, and third place in New Hampshire. Who knows, a term as a state chief executive might help her should she run for president again in the future.
But it’s a quick fall for Walz, and his quick exit from the race for a third time says he knows what else is coming…and it must be big to step aside this soon.
