BUTLER COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Butler County. According to a release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety, it happened near the intersection of C13 and Franklin Avenue in Butler County on Thursday, Nov. 27. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call just after 9 that morning. The caller reported a man shooting into their residence. The 911 caller reported multiple people were trapped inside the home. Iowa State Patrol troopers and Butler County deputies responded. An ISP trooper made contact with a male subject carrying a firearm that matched the description of the subject provided by the victim. Shortly after contact was made, shots were fired between the subject and the trooper. The subject fled into a nearby residence. A tactical team responded to the scene and safely removed multiple people from the residence. After speaking with a negotiator, the subject surrendered and was taken into custody. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He is expected to survive. The investigation determined the shooting was not random, and there was a connection between the victims and the subject. The troopers and the deputies involved in the incident were not hurt. The trooper involved in the shooting is on critical incident leave, per department policy.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – Dubuque may cut ties with its airport’s only commercial airline contract at an upcoming City Council meeting. Denver Air Connection has offered daily flights between the Dubuque Regional Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport since November 2024. The city agreed to help fund the airline until the flights became self-sustainable. In a year, the airline has received $3.6 million in a mix of federal, city and local business contributions. A route is typically considered self-sustainable when flights are at least 80% full. In October, ridership averaged 53%. The Greater Dubuque Development Corporation and the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce are trying to raise $650,000 from area businesses to keep services funded. The City Manager is requesting that this funding be reviewed at the December 15 City Council meeting. If this goal is not met by then, Denver Air Connection will end its service by March 16, 2026. The City Council will address the City Manager’s proposal in its upcoming meeting on Monday evening.

WATERLOO, Iowa (Iowa Capital Dispatch/KCRG) – A Waterloo facility is one of three Iowa care facilities cited for regulatory violations tied to recent resident deaths. Harmony House Health Center in Waterloo has been fined $500 for failing to coordinate and integrate necessary supports for a 29-year-old male resident with severe intellectual disabilities, autism and a history of eating non-food items. State inspection reports indicate the man was found on the floor of the facility at 5:55 a.m. on Oct. 5, 2025, and was pronounced dead 20 minutes later. Inspectors reported the medical examiner’s office indicated the man had two gloves in his stomach and one lodged in his trachea that blocked his airway, as well as a subdural hematoma sustained in a fall. Inspectors alleged that despite the man’s documented history of eating cloth, paper, gloves, bugs, towels and virtually anything he found on the floor, the home was unable to produce a behavioral assessment that spoke to the man’s habit of ingesting non-food items.
