The Cedar Rapids Gazette will soon have new ownership. Adams Multimedia has acquired the newspaper along with 11 others, including papers in Washington, Mt. Pleasant, and Fairfield. Adams owns more than 120 newspapers across the country and is headquartered in Minneapolis. Folience, which is an employee-owned group, currently owns the Gazette. Folience president and CEO Tom Pientok says subscribers to the Gazette should not immediately see any changes. These are the first Iowa papers that would be owned by Adams Multimedia.

 

Cedar Rapids police say they’ve arrested two people in connection to a shooting from earlier this month. Faith Profit faces several charges including attempted murder. Tatayana Mitchell faces an accessory charge. The shooting in the 1800 block of A Ave Northeast sent a man to the hospital on November 8. He survived.

 

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation identified the man officers shot and killed in Black Hawk County Sunday night along Highway 20. The DCI says officers tried to pull over Benjamin Sink, who was wanted on several charges related to a domestic relationship. Officers say he wouldn’t stop, prompting a chase. Officers say when the vehicle was stopped, he got out and fired at officers who returned fire, killing him. The officers involved were not hurt and are on leave.

 

The Iowa Transportation Department says the on-going Interstate 380 reconstruction project will stretch until 2033. The latest phase was presented to the public yesterday. That includes I-380 from Swan Lake Road north of the Penn Street exit, north to 120th Street NW near Shueyville. Major work will create a third lane in each direction, new bridges, and updated on and off ramps.

 

Iowa City organizations that support people who are homeless hosted a resources fair yesterday that included haircuts, free food, and other resources. The Iowa City Housing Authority, which sponsored the event along with Wellpoint and the Johnson County Local Homeless Coordinating Board, reported more than 200 attendees. That’s more than twice the number of people served last year.
