MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – A Marshalltown school employee was charged after police say she had an inappropriate relationship with a former student. Stacy Galema, who is listed as an assistant soccer coach on the school district’s website, is charged with sexual exploitation and lascivious conduct with a minor. According to a criminal complaint, a former student reported having a relationship with Galema between 2014 and 2020. The former student said the relationship began before the student was in 9th grade and ended after the student graduated, according to court documents. The school district has placed Galema on administrative leave. Officials said they are working with police as the investigation continues.

POSTVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – The Postville Athletic Department has cancelled its girls varsity basketball season due to low participation. The department cited low participation numbers in making this decision. The school will continue with a Junior Varsity schedule only this season. Officials believe this decision is best for the long-term growth and development of their student-athletes.

MUSCATINE, Iowa (KCRG) – Multiple buildings in Muscatine were damaged after a fire spread early Saturday morning. Muscatine Fire crews were called to the 2200 block of Hershey Street around 6:30 Saturday morning for a report of a fire inside a garage. When crews arrived, the entire building was engulfed in flames, and a neighboring garage was beginning to catch fire. The flames also damaged a home and garage across the road from the initial fire. Crews estimate that there is around $100,000 worth of damage between the buildings. No one was injured in the fire, and investigators are currently looking for the cause.

SIOUX CITY (KTIV/KCRG) – First responders were sent to a crash on Highway 75, near the Plymouth and Woodbury County line, where officials say members of a local basketball team were hurt. According to the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received multiple 911 calls in reference to a two-vehicle crash at 12:53 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. In a news release from the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, it states a 2014 StarCraft Prodigy bus and a black 2016 Jeep Compass crashed near the intersection of Highway 75 and C80 in Plymouth County, leaving the vehicles partially on the roadway. The sheriff’s office says the bus was stopped on C80 and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 75 to travel north. At the same time, the Jeep was traveling south on Highway 75, and “a crash occurred within the intersection.” Officials have confirmed the Remsen St. Mary’s girls’ basketball team was on the bus. “Upon arrival, crews found a passenger vehicle in the southbound lane fully involved on fire, and a Remsen St. Mary’s school bus in the intersection with impact damage to the driver’s side. Multiple patients were identified. Firefighters immediately initiated patient care while simultaneously extinguishing the vehicle fire,” authorities posted on social media. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says multiple injuries were reported and multiple people were transported to the hospital by ambulance and helicopter. No further details have been released regarding the injuries from this collision.
