Two Interstate 380 traffic cameras are to be turned back on in Cedar Rapids. The city appealed with the Iowa Transportation Department to recommission speed cameras used on the interstate to slow traffic along the S-curve in the downtown area. The cameras monitoring northbound I-380 traffic at J Avenue, and I-380 at 1st Avenue southbound, will be reactivated. The city maintains the speed cameras reduce dangerous speeds, prevent severe crashes, and protect both motorists and first responders on one of the busiest stretches of roadway in the region. The city has not announced when the cameras will be turned back on.
