University of Iowa Health Care says it is changing many of its building plans due to federal funding cuts. Iowa is expected to see a $9.5 billion cut. The most significant changes impact UIHC’s inpatient tower project. The tower is in its early stages of development. UIHC says the project is now on a new timeline, but didn’t provide any new dates. The Congressional Budget Office estimates a ten-year reduction of more than a trillion dollars for health care nationally.

 

The Iowa Public Broadcasters Board is asking the state to fill the gap from federal cuts. The $3 million ask would cover new transmitters in Waterloo and Sioux City. The board is looking at various ways it can come up with funds, including possibly charging for meet-and-greet events. Last month, Congress approved President Donald Trump’s plan to cut $9 billion in public broadcasting funding. Earlier this month, PBS cut more than 20 percent of its budget.

 

The Linn County Sheriff’s Office says a man surrendered after a stabbing in Center Point. The sheriff’s office says yesterday deputies found a man with serious knife wounds at a home along Franklin Street.

He is expected to survive. The sheriff’s office says Riley Young left the scene before deputies arrived. He now faces charges of first-degree burglary, willful injury causing bodily injury, and criminal mischief.

 

The trial continues for David Heady, Jr., who faces 13 counts of child endangerment for being inside a truck pulling a hayride that crashed in 2023. A total of 29 children were thrown from the trailer into the ditch. At least three had to be taken to a hospital. Witnesses testified Heady had been drinking the day of the crash. His defense says Heady was a passenger, not the driver of the hayride. The driver has already pleaded guilty to the same 13 counts.

 

Field of Dreams and the city of Dyersville are preparing for a big weekend starting tonight. A two-day concert at the Field of Dreams site this weekend will bring out fans of Tim McGraw and the group Nickelback. More than 20,000 people are expected, so some traffic routes in the city are being changed and local businesses are bracing for a big influx of visitors.
