Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control has failed a pair of state inspections. Documents from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship show the shelter was inspected and failed on both August 15 and 19. The inspector noted moisture condensation in the building and mold. It also noted stained and dirty ceiling tiles that could be dangerous to animals underneath. IDALS has given them until September 2 to get things corrected.

Nurses at Unity Point’s Des Moines hospitals are asking the health care provider to let them form a union. During a rally outside Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines Wednesday, several nurses shared their stories, saying their voices aren’t being heard. The nurses cited issues such as under staffing, unsafe conditions, and lack of support from management. In a statement, Unity Point says, “We believe that representation by an outside party is not in the best interests of our hospitals, our nurses, or the patients we serve.”
