A Hiawatha man with connections to two local school districts is facing a charge of indecent contact with a child. According to a criminal complaint filed yesterday, Peyton Helgeson is accused of having indecent contact with a child, while employed at St. Matthew’s Catholic School’s Early Childhood Center. That center is part of Xavier Catholic Schools. The complaint alleges Helgeson touched clothing covering certain parts of a young girl’s body. It shows the incidents happened from August of last year to March of this year.

 

A 17-year-old will spend ten years in prison for driving drunk and threatening Dubuque police officers with a knife before they shot him on Christmas Eve last year. Officers were looking for Lorenzo Cruz after a 911 caller reported an armed person. When they found him, police say he pulled out a knife and refused orders to drop it. Court documents show Cruz pleaded guilty to seriously hurting someone while driving drunk and assault on a police officer.

 

A sock-making company in northern Iowa is closing its doors in October. According to Iowa WARN, Fox River Mills LLC in Osage is shutting down. More than 100 employees will lose their jobs. It’s set to close October 10.

 

Manchester police say they’ve arrested a woman on money laundering and identity theft charges in a scheme that, according to digital evidence collected, stands at a million dollars lost. Linda Holz was arrested after a tip from a local bank regarding suspicious activity. Police say their investigation uncovered a fraudulent money scheme involving multiple suspects from various states. Manchester Police say they’re working with victims and agencies in other states, and the FBI, to handle a case of this magnitude.

 

The Iowa Lottery will try to break a world record at the Iowa State Fair.  The Iowa Lottery’s original “Scratch, Match, and Win” game launched at the state fair in 1985. This year, it will try to break the record for most people scratching scratch tickets at the same time. The current record is 550 people. People 21 and older who want to be a part of this can go to the Elwell Family Park on August 14.
