Economic Impact

There will be a basketball game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Sunday, between the Indiana Fever WNBA team and the Brazilian National Team. It’s an exhibition, and it will be the first time former Hawkeye star Caitlin Clark will play in Iowa as a pro, with the Indiana team.

And according to the folks at ticketing technology company Victory Live, which analyzes sales across the secondary ticket market, Clark’s return to Iowa City now ranks as the most expensive ticket for any event in her career.

The average paid ticket price on the secondary market for Sunday’s game is $440 each. And that’s the average.

Other games where reselling tickets made some people a lot of money included her senior night game, where she set the NCAA all-time scoring record; that was in March of last year against Ohio State…average ticket price for that game was $411.  In third place on the Victory Live list of “top 4 Caitlin Clark events” was the February 2024 game against Michigan, where she set the NCAA women’s all-time scoring record; average ticket price for that one was $309. And in fourth place, at a measly $289, a game against USC this past February where Clark did not play, but had her college jersey retired.

And it’s not just Clark’s college home that is the site for top ticket prices on the resale market. Victory Live notes that the average ticket price for Indiana Fever away games last year was $272, up by just more than $100 from the year before. And Indiana Fever home game prices were $197, more than double the home average from the year before.

So…save your pennies…and Benjamins.
