White House Visits
At some point, it became traditional for winning pro and college sports teams to make a pilgrimage to the White House and celebrate the win with the president, whoever that was at the time. They’d present the president with a personalized jersey, tour the White House, do the full-blown tourist thing.
Then things got political. There always were folks who skipped the event, but they didn’t make a big deal of it. Nowadays, though, everything is a big deal.
What’s interesting is that teams are now flocking to schedule time at the White House with the current president. Even teams that missed out in the past for COVID or whatever are circling back.
That’s because it’s good for their business to be seen with a president who genuinely likes sports and connects with Americans—the fans of the team.
If I’m not mistaken, since taking office this time, President Trump has been to the Daytona 500, the Super Bowl, the NCAA wrestling championships, UFC events…and it’s not just because he gets a good seat. It’s good for his business, too.
But the reaction of the fans at those events, and the fact that more athletes are not shy about their support, tells us something—something that those in the big cities and DC bubble will never figure out, and something that explains the resurgence going on in this country.
