CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Euan MacGregor, formerly known as David Bean, will have to spend 41 months in federal prison and pay back millions in dollars to his former employer. A judge sentenced him last week in Sacramento, California. MacGregor had previously admitted embezzling $3.2 million. The judge also ruled MacGregor will have 36 months of supervised release after he serves his time, and must pay $3,217,456.41 to his victim. A press release does not name his victim, but shows MacGregor worked as a Chief Administrative Officer for his employer between November 2014 and January 2020. At that time he was known as David Bean. In August 2024, TV9 reported MacGregor was hired by Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton as its new CEO in June 2024. In a statement in August, the hospital’s Board of Directors said MacGregor was no longer employed by the hospital at that time. The release shows he diverted at least 122 checks to bank accounts he controlled by using a shell corporation with a name similar to that as the business he worked for. It says he then gave false documents to his employer to hide the stolen funds. From there, he told his employer he was outsourcing booking work to a third party, when it was actually a shell company MacGregor created and controlled called Essential Business Services. His employer than paid the fake company thousands of dollars each month for services that were never performed. MacGregor used the fraudulent funds on personal expenses for he and his family, including mortgage payments, credit cards, education expenses, travel, and on vehicles.
PERRY, Iowa (KCRG) – Police arrested a Perry man after they say he called to report he had killed someone living with him at his home. Police were called to the 2600 Lucinda Street in Perry at around 8:42 p.m. on Sunday. Police said 75-year-old Richard Hoesing called to report the person’s death. He was cooperative with police when they arrived. He was then taken to the police department and later charged with First Degree Murder. Law enforcement said this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community. A criminal complaint shows more details into what happened. It shows Hoesing called 911, telling dispatchers he had killed his wife Jean Ann Hoesing. It goes on to show Hoesing told them she suffered from bi-polar condition as well as M.S., and he killed her to put her out of her misery. The criminal complaint goes on to show officers found Jean Joesing dead in their bedroom from a severe cut to her throat, and a kitchen knife in their bathroom. They also found Richard Hoesing with blood on his hands and clothing. The case remains under investigation.
