Another Year

So my personal odometer clicked ahead yesterday…another birthday come and gone. At this point, I’m just glad they are still coming, and that I can still remember how many there have been.

It was a big day…not only did I get the oil changed in my car, but to mark the special day, I had the tires rotated, too. After a certain age, the birthday “celebration” takes on a different form.

My day began, however, with an email from Casey’s, telling me I earned a free donut or cookie, just for stopping in. Soon after came another email from my alma mater, the University of Iowa, complete with an image of a dancing Herky.

I was advised to use the occasion to get a health care check…that came from an insurance company…not my current health insurer, mind you, but one the company dropped last year.

Texas Roadhouse offered me a free blooming onion if I bought an entrée. Hard to pass that up.

Oh, and my employer sent an email, wishing me a fantastic day filled with joy and celebration. Well, I was at work, so that was a given.

No, thrifty as I may be, I did not make a special trip for a free donut. But grateful for the offer…and grateful for the opportunity to mark another year on God’s glorious Earth.
