Joe Goes Hollywood
It was reported earlier this week that former President Joe Biden has signed with a Hollywood agent.
CAA, Creative Arts Agency, is a major firm representing celebrities, network news folks, and political figures. For example, CAA represents former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. Former West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke are also on the client list, as is actress Meryl Streep, lifestyle expert Martha Stewart, and international baseball star Shohei Ohtani.
And, in fact, CAA represented Biden in between the time he left office as Vice President, and the time he was sworn in as President. At that time, they negotiated a book deal for Biden, telling about his eldest son Beau’s battle with cancer. The book release was accompanied by a nationwide paid book tour that claims to have sold 85,000 tickets.
“President Biden is one of America’s most respected and influential voices in national and global affairs,” said Richard Lovett, co-chairman of CAA. “His lifelong commitment to public service is one of unity, optimism, dignity, and possibility. We are profoundly honored to partner with him again.” The Hollywood Reporter noted that Mr. Lovett and his two CAA co-chairs were among the prominent Hollywood backers of Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
My question is what deals CAA is going to be able to get for hard scrabble Scranton Joe at this point. His approval rating when he left office was abysmal. He pardoned his family. He pardoned members of Congress, Dr. Fauci, Gen. Milley…in fact, more pardons than his three predecessors combined. Then there is his limited speaking ability these days…not to be callous, but Shohei Ohtani makes more sense when speaking in a news conference—and he does not speak English.
Best guess is that there’s another book deal already set, where someone ghost writes the text—that’s what happened on another Biden book, which is what led to the investigation into his keeping confidential government documents and sharing them with the ghost writer. There will be a big payday for the “big guy” and CAA as the agent will get a cut. No one will buy the book, and the publisher will write off the loss and look to future favors from Democrats.
So if you are interested in having Joe Biden come speak to your group…now you know who to call.
