IOWA COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department says a semi-truck collided with a train just after 9 a.m. Thursday, south of Main Amana on U.S. Highway 151. Officials say a 19-year-old was driving a semi-truck and failed to notice the eastbound train approaching the crossing. The driver sideswiped a pickup truck that had stopped at the railroad crossing, and then collided with the train. No one was hurt, but the pickup truck had some damage, and the 2007 Kenworth semi tractor truck was a total loss. The train reportedly suffered approximately $2,000 damage. The semi-truck driver was cited for failing to stop at an active train crossing.

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – A deadly shooting on Christmas Day was a murder-suicide, according to Des Moines police. Officers were called to a home in the 2900 block of East 40th Court shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a shooting. Police found two people with gunshot wounds. A man died at the scene, while a woman was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Police provided more information Thursday. The shooting involved a married couple, police say. The husband, age 60, shot his wife, age 53, before turning the gun on himself and shooting, according to investigators. The woman later died at the hospital. Officers have not released the names of either person. The investigation remains ongoing.

VINING, Iowa (KCRG) – Multiple fire departments responded to a fire at a shop building north of Vining around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. Belle Plaine Fire, Elberon Fire, Vining Fire and Toledo Fire were on the scene for about four hours. The Belle Plaine Fire Department says half of the building suffered serious heat and smoke damage, and that crews had to open up wall sheeting and pull down roof panels to expose burning and smoldering material.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Department of Corrections is looking for a woman they say escaped from a work release facility in Waterloo. 21-year-old D’Iona Wilson-Bass failed to report back the Waterloo Women’s Center for Change on Tuesday. The agency says Wilson-Bass is 5 foot 6 inches, and 208 pounds. She was convicted in Black Hawk County on charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon. Anyone who knows where she is should call police.
