From the KCRG-TV9 Newsroom:

A new letter from Speaker of the Iowa House Pat Grassley accuses the Iowa judicial system of misallocating $53 million during the last few years. He claims it’s because of a computer issue. The Iowa Department of Management says the Victim Compensation Fund and Juvenile Detention Home Fund were each shorted more than $3.5 million dollars. The Road Use Tax Fund was also shorted more than $10 million.

Xavier Catholic Schools in Cedar Rapids announced it is planning to buy and remodel the old Toyota Financial Services building to turn it into a new middle school. This school would combine the student populations of Regis and LaSalle Middle Schools into that building on the Northeast side near Fleet Farm. The plan is to open the new school for the fall semester in 2026. The church says it will also add a facility right on the edge of that property which will house a new chapel, a new gym, and music facility.

No charges will be filed in the deadly Perry school shooting. That’s according to the Dallas County attorney. A 17-year-old student shot 9 people–including 6th grader Ahmir Jolliff and Principal Dan Marburger, who both died from their injuries–before killing himself. The county attorney says the shooter “acted alone in planning and carrying out the events.”

Investigators identified the man killed in a crash near Palo yesterday morning. Officials with the Linn County Sheriff’s Office say 65-year-old Rodney Boren died in the crash. They say Boren was driving south on Covington Road when he drove into a ditch and his vehicle rolled. The crash remains under investigation.

A new program dedicated to help people who struggle to find rental housing is coming to Linn County next month. It’s a pilot program that incentivizes landlords to rent to people who don’t have solid housing records. This could include a history of evictions or criminal records. Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust invested $100,000 to the Alliance for Equitable Housing to make this happen. That money will create a fund for landlords to use to cover costs that might come up when renting. And 30 tenants will complete education opportunities through Waypoint to learn what it means to be a good tenant.
