CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – A home was spared from more significant fire damage thanks to the efforts of firefighters. At around 11:29 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, the Cedar Falls Fire and Rescue was sent to a report of a fire in the 800 block of Juanita Avenue. Firefighters arrived and located the fire on a deck on the outside of the home. Crews were able to put out the fire before it was able to spread to more of the building, limiting damage to just the exterior of the home. No one was hurt in the incident.

 

RANDALIA, Iowa (KCRG) – An Oelwein man is facing charges after deputies said he crashed a vehicle into a bridge near Randalia, causing $15,000 in damage. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to the crash along O Avenue south of 170th Street, near Randalia at around 9:24 a.m. on Friday. The sheriff’s office said the driver, Steve Euans, 68, was heading north when he crossed over the opposite lane of traffic and hit the bridge. First responders arrived to find the vehicle hanging over the bridge embankment. Euans was charged with failure to maintain control, not having insurance and operating without registration. The damage to the bridge was estimated at $15,000. The vehicle is considered a total loss.

 

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – A Black Hawk County judge has found a man guilty of raping two women. Asante Walker Garcia Adams of North Liberty was found guilty on two counts of second degree sexual abuse, and two counts of first degree burglary.  Investigators said Walker Garcia Adams broke into the apartment of one of the victims in Waterloo in March 2023. The victim reported he held a knife to her five-year-old son’s neck and then he raped her. Investigators said Walker Garcia Adams raped another woman the following month after breaking into her Cedar Falls apartment. A sentencing hearing is set for Dec. 2. He also faces a trial for a separate case in Johnson County next year.

 

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in the state to be flown at half-staff on Monday, to honor the lives lost in the Oct. 7, 2023 attack on Israel by the terrorist organization Hamas. In the attack, 1,200 lives were lost, including at least 40 Americans, and at least seven American hostages are still being held by the Iran-backed terrorist group. “The hearts of Iowans go out to the innocent Israeli families and American citizens killed by Hamas. Iran and its terrorist proxies continue to attack as Israeli forces fight to protect their people against the forces of evil,” Gov. Reynolds said. “Iowa stands, as it always has, with Israel.” On Monday, flags will be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol Building and on all public buildings and grounds across the state until sunset. Residents, businesses, schools, municipalities and other government subdivisions are encouraged to do the same.
