QUASQUETON, Iowa (KCRG) -A combine caught fire in a rural area outside of Quasqueton on Saturday evening. This happened just before 6:00 p.m. near the intersection of 280th Street and Stewart Ave. The Independence Fire Department had been called to help before the Quasqueton Fire Department got the fire under control. The combine was already completely engulfed in flames and smoke. No injuries were reported in the fire, but the combine is a complete loss.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An East Coast port strike could be just days away, and that could mean spending even more at the grocery store and for other goods here in Iowa. Around 45,000 dock workers on the East Coast are likely to go on strike Tuesday for the first time since 1977. But according to supply chain experts here in Iowa, even if the strike doesn’t end up happening, the damage is already done because vendors are already diverting shipments to other locations. In anticipation of a possible strike, ships on the sea right now are going to the West Coast instead of the East Coast. That means a lot of ships need to take a long detour, which could pose a big risk for any perishables being shipped. Another factor is that ports on the West Coast will be handling ships that normally go to the East Coast, which could lead to a big traffic jam for ships. Delays for perishable products mean trips to the grocery store will be more expensive. Plus, with the holidays coming up, lots of goods that would be shipped in time for holiday shopping are now potentially being delayed.

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wisconsin (KCRG) – Former President Donald Trump spoke to supporters Saturday afternoon at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. There, Trump highlighted illegal immigration and renewed his criticism of vice president Kamala Harris and her border policies. Trump’s stage in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin looked a little different than normal on Saturday. Trump stood flanked by mug shots of illegal immigrants, his backdrop reading “deport illegals now.” Trump’s main focus was criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris’ border security policy, with Trump repeatedly mentioning the case in which local police there arrested a member of a Venezuelan gang for allegedly assaulting a mother and her daughter. His rally highlighting immigration comes a day after Vice President Harris visited the US-Mexico border Friday, calling for tighter asylum restrictions. In the battleground state of Wisconsin, Trump ended his rally urging the crowd to get out and vote.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – A vegetation fire was reported in Johnson County at 465th St. SW and Dane Rd. SW Saturday afternoon. Shortly before 2 p.m., units on the scene reported three separate fire areas and stated that the fire was jumping from field to field. The fire was put out, and officials say no one was hurt.
