IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Three teenagers are facing felony burglary charges after police say they beat and stabbed a victim at West High School in Iowa City. Two of the teens were identified in criminal complaints as 17-year-old Tion Exum-Carson, of Coralville, and 16-year-old Nathaniel Washington, of Iowa City. The third teen was identified as 16-year-old Moayed Elside, of Iowa City. Each teen is charged with First Degree Burglary. The criminal complaints say the incident happened at West High School at around 8 p.m. on Aug. 23. Police said it was captured on the school’s surveillance cameras, which showed the teens chasing down the victim in the hallway before punching, kicking and stabbing the victim multiple times while the victim laid defenseless on the ground. None of the teens are students at West High and the incident happened after the school was closed, and the teens were not allowed to be inside the building. Criminal complaints for Exum-Carson and Washington say they were given an indefinite trespass warning for the school in January 2022. TV9 is naming the teens in this incident because they are facing felony charges. Police have not reported on the condition of the victim. The criminal complaints only say the victim had a cut on his left arm.

WASHINGTON, Iowa (KCRG) – The Washington, Iowa man charged in a shooting in May that sent one person to the hospital has taken a plea deal. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened in the 2700 block of Airport Road in Washington at around 12:45 a.m. on May 29. Mitchell Martinez was charged with control of a firearm by a felon, attempted murder, going armed with intent, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, in connection to the shooting. The trial in this case had been set to begin Tuesday, but paperwork for a plea deal was filed on Friday. Martinez is pleading guilty to Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon. A sentencing hearing is now set for Oct. 4.

VINTON, Iowa (KCRG) – A Vinton woman is facing multiple charges after police said she crashed into a police car and then led officers on a high speed chase when they tried to arrest her. A criminal complaint says Stephanie Koob had an active arrest warrant when officers tried to make contact with her while she was in a vehicle in the 500 block of 33rd Avenue SW on Sept. 2. Officers said Koob refused to get out of the vehicle and then backed into a squad car and led the officers on a high speed chase. The chase exceeded speeds of 25 mph over the posted speed limit. Police said they saw Koob throw a baggie of methamphetamine out of the vehicle. They also said they later found another controlled substance inside the vehicle. The damage done to the police squad car was estimated at between $1,500 and $10,000. Stephanie Koob is charged with Eluding While Exceeding the Speed Limit by 25 mph or more, Second Degree Criminal Mischief, two counts of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Interference with Official Acts. Koob was previously convicted of Possession of a Controlled Substance in December last year.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A Marion man is facing multiple charges after police say he threatened someone with a gun at a Cedar Rapids park on Sunday. A criminal complaint says the victim reported that Blake Mcknight had assaulted and harassed him at Riverside Park, at 1225 C Street SW. The complaint says Mcknight pointed a gun at the victim and said, “I could kill you, too.” Police said when they found Mcknight later, he had marijuana in his vehicle. Police also said he admitted to having a handgun in a holster on his hip, but that it had fallen out when he ran away from the scene. Police later found the gun and identified it as a .38 caliber Center Fire revolver. Mcknight is charged with Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, Use of a Dangerous Weapon in the Commission of a Crime, Harassment in the First Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, and Disorderly Conduct – Fighting/Violent Behavior.
