WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls is asking for donations of hygiene products as it continues to receive a “higher-than-normal number of requests” for them. Leaders with the Salvation of Army said the most needed items include men’s and women’s deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, razors and shaving cream. They’re also asking for donations of body lotion and tooth brushes and toothpaste.  Donated items must be unused. Travel-sized items are preferred, but the Salvation Army is also accepting full-sized items. People can drop off donations at The Salvation Army of Waterloo/Cedar Falls, at 89 Franklin Street in Waterloo, on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and on Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. DELHI, Iowa (KCRG) – Jody Puffett, of Delhi, an independent candidate, announced she is running for the U.S. House of Representatives. The unaffiliated candidate is vying for Iowa’s Second District against Republican Ashley Hinson and Democrat Sarah Corkery. The Iowa Secretary of State confirmed Puffett’s name will be on the ballot in November’s General Election. In a release, her campaign said her platform emphasizes “policy over party and people over politics.” “I have no doubt that Ashley and Sarah will flood this campaign with political party money, but I believe running as an Independent is actually my biggest strength,” Puffet said. “I am not beholden to a party platform for support. My campaign is about running a clean, straightforward race that focuses on what really matters to the people of our district.” Puffet said she wants to debate Hinson and Corkery on the issues.

DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa Capitol Bureau) -Three Iowa libertarian candidates for Congress have been removed from the November ballot. Wednesday morning, a state panel found that the Libertarian Party of Iowa did not follow proper protocol to get their candidates on the ballot. The challenges, filed by Republican voters, say that the Libertarian Party held county conventions the same night as their precinct caucuses, which is against state law. LP Chair Jules Cutler admits they made a mistake. “I submit to you that it is a technical violation. 181 minutes too early for our conventions to be held. That’s what we are talking about,” Cutler said. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says it’s unfortunate to have to kick someone off the ballot, but he has to enforce the rules. “This is an important step to be a candidate and if you want to do that, you need to do your homework. You need to know what you have to get done,” he said. The Libertarian Party chair says she’s going to get with the candidates and see about a potential legal challenge in District Court. If they lose there, these candidates say that they won’t be able to run as Libertarians, but will run campaigns as write in candidates.
