WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – The Waterloo Public Library recently received an anonymous donation to create the Waterloo Public Library Endowment Fund. The fund runs through the Waterloo Community Foundation. Library Director David Eckert said whether it’s for checking out books, doing research or even for entertainment, libraries are a place for everyone. He said this donation will continue to allow them to make the library a safe and inviting environment for the Waterloo community. Eckert said they hope this donation sparks others to contribute to the fund as well to help continue the library’s work for years to come.

 

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Falls Police Friday arrested 42-year-old Ryan Pontasch, who is connected to a bicycle accident that happened last March. Several minutes after 3:30 p.m. on March 13th, officers were sent to help after receiving a report of a GMC pick-up hitting a bicyclist, 22-year-old Krisha Keeran, who had been riding on the trail. Keeran was hit near the entrance of Pheasant Ridge Golf Course, located at 3205 West 12th Street. Pontasch was the driver of the GMC pick-up. The car in front of Pontasch slowed to turn left into the golf course. Pontasch swerved to avoid hitting the car, causing his car to leave the road and veer into the bike path, hitting Keeran, a tree, and several signs. After the incident, Keeran was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for her injuries. She is no longer in the hospital. Pontasch has been charged with Serious Injury by Vehicle, Failure to Maintain Control, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Provide Proof of Financial Liability.

 

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids Police are investigating a shooting that happened on Saturday afternoon. The shooting occurred in the 6600 block of Kirkwood Boulevard Southwest just before 3 p.m. on Saturday. Officers went to the scene after receiving a medical call for service. They found a person suffering from two gunshot wounds. The person was taken to a local hospital for what are thought to be non-life threatening injuries. After investigating, the police arrested 24-year-old Seth McGraw from Cedar Rapids. McGraw has been charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Intimidation with a dangerous weapon, Multiple Drug-related charges, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, Use of a Weapon in the Commission of a Crime, and Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons.

 

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC/KCRG) – Davenport police confirmed one person is dead after a shooting near the Skybridge early Saturday. The victim’s grandmother reached out to KWQC and confirmed that her grandson’s name is Mason Payne and he is 23 years old. Police received a report of gunfire around 12:30 a.m. and found Payne suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the parking lot next to the Skybridge. Squad cars filled the parking lot next to Davenport’s Skybridge when TV6 crews arrived on the scene. The parking lot was surrounded by crime scene tape as officers and forensic teams set up to do the investigation. Police shut down River Drive between Harrison Street and Brady Street as they investigated the shooting. At one point, an officer was across the street from the main scene using a flash light to look for evidence at the base of the Figge Art Museum. Payne’s grandmother also confirmed Saturday that police are currently searching for at least one suspect.
