Reaction to the Pick

Reaction to Kamala Harris’ selection yesterday of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her vice-presidential running mate was utterly and completely predictable. Depending on which side you’re on, he’s either the second coming of FDR…or someone you wouldn’t trust to babysit your children.

Here’s the official Iowa Democratic Party statement from party chair Rita Hart:

“Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is a great candidate for Vice President because he understands Midwest principles, how hard Iowans work, and the value of a dollar. He is a veteran who will make sure our troops are taken care of and have access to the benefits they deserve. Walz is a former teacher who knows our young people are our greatest investment, and how important it is to make sure there are opportunities for folks of all ages to thrive no matter where they live. Iowans have been fired up to elect Kamala Harris since the day she announced her intention to run for President, and it shows with the surge of support we’ve seen through donations and through the number of people who are stepping up to volunteer for the Iowa Democratic Party. I have every confidence this will be the winning ticket in November.”

That came around 10 o’clock yesterday morning. About 40 minutes before that, the Republican Party of Iowa weighed in, through party chair Jeff Kaufmann:

“Kamala choosing radical Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to be her nominee reinforces the fact that four more years of Kamala means four more years of the same dangerous policies that have proven over and over again to be detrimental to our country. Walz has welcomed leftist California policies into Minnesota: he destroyed their economy by wiping away their surplus, let the city burn from riots in 2020, and has allowed crime to skyrocket. Meanwhile, Kamala is a champion of Biden’s progressive agenda, and now her and Gov. Walz will take these policies even further. A Harris/Walz White House means wide open borders for terrorists and deadly drugs, the abolishment of private health insurance, a ban on fracking, reckless spending, and more crime in our cities. They are dangerous and irresponsible politicians who cannot be in charge of the United States of America.”

As we always say, where you stand depends on where you sit. Let’s see which of those two depictions of Walz sticks with voters in November.
