This is the Candidate
I enjoyed unplugging from much of the political conversation the past few days…too much of anything isn’t good for you, including ice creamalthough I’m willing to make an exception for that.
But I did see that Kamala Harris has already won the remote vote of convention delegates to clinch her party’s presidential nomination; the voting ends today but apparently with no opposition, you can get enough delegate votes quickly.
And I see that some Republicans continue to point outcorrectlythe she’s the Democrat nominee without running in a single primary or caucus ever. She bailed on the Iowa Caucuses before calendar year 2020 even began, and of course, was not on any ballot this year.
It’s time to put that point to the sideline, because obviously, Democrats didn’t care as a party and polls show Democrats are quite willing to vote for her. And it’s not a winning issue with independents and swing voters.
Doesn’t matter how she got there, it’s a Harris vs. Trump race…or Harris v. Trump v. Kennedy, in some states. It’s time for the GOP to focus on her record prior to becoming vice president, including being tabbed the most liberal member of the U.S. Senate at the time she did run for the Oval Office in 2019, and her record as a partner in the Biden-Harris Administration.
Actually talking about issues, past stances, and track recordthat’s what voters are truly looking for as they cast a vote for the next four years.
There’s not much value in pointing out her racial makeup, other than to make the point that she is a chameleon who changes her position on that as often as she changes her position on political issues…and if you’re willing to change your identity to win votes, how will you govern?
But again, it’s better to make the case on issues, flip-flops, and plans for governing. The voting public is smart enough to take it, a real choice on issues. If only candidates on both sides will talk about those issues, as opposed to personalities.
