Planned Parenthood is expanding operations at its health centers near state lines in places like Omaha, Nebraska.

Closing arguments are scheduled for this morning in the first-degree murder trial of Tyler Dazey. He’s charged with killing his mother, Jennifer, at her Dubuque home. The prosecution focused on the physical evidence pointing to Tyler Dazey. The state medical examiner said the 17 blows that killed Jennifer matched the hatchet at the scene with Tyler’s palm print on it. Dubuque Police Investigator Kurt Rosenthal testified about his interview with Dazey after the murder. When asked about his relationship with his mother, Tyler accused her of being a witch. Court will reconvene this morning for closing arguments, and after that, the jury is expected to start deliberations.

Summer break is entering the home stretch. Eastern Iowa health officials are encouraging parents to make sure their kids are up-to-date on their immunizations before going back to school. In Iowa, students can file for religious exemptions from vaccines. Last year, more than 93 percent of students provided immunization certificates. That’s less than a percent lower than the previous year. Heather Meador with Linn County Public Health says more people opting out of vaccinations is a step in the wrong direction and can put children’s health at risk.
