Not So Social

The next time you see someone in public with their face buried deep into their smartphone…apparently it could be worse.

That’s because a new study shows Iowa is the sixth state where social media presence matters the least…in other words, sixth from the bottom of most active social media fans.

The research was gathered by an online card game site, hearts.co…which analyzed nationwide Google search volume for keywords related to growing an online presence.

Iowans are apparently searching for advice on how to increase their followers at a rate 21 percent less than the average American.

That means we are so smart we already know…or more likely…that we just don’t care.

New Mexico, if you’re wondering, is the state least interested in boosting social media follower count…followed by West Virginia and Montana…then Alaska and Maine…with Iowa number 6 and South Dakota after us.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the “look at me, look at me” spectrum is Florida, which rates 49 percent higher than average in terms of number of people desperate for social media followers. Georgia is next, followed by New York.

Iowans are searching for these tips at a rate of 42.4 searches per 100,000 residents…again, a rate 21 percent lower than the average American.

I’m not positive, but I’m guessing “do a daily radio commentary” is not one of the ways they suggest to increase your social media following.
