Seven people are facing charges after Cedar Rapids police say the men were caught trying to have sex with people they thought were under 16. Police say it was part of an undercover operation, and the seven were using social media to try to meet with minors. Criminal complaints indicate those arrested may have reached out to what police call a spoof profile, which was actually an undercover officer. Police say 43-year-old Kenneth Ruby faces a charge of sex offender registration violation. But the other six face at least a charge of enticing a minor, with other charges possible. They are Coady Tallman, Adam Darling, Aaron Dicken, Seton Smith, David Wren, Jr., and Scott Greenman. Police say an eighth arrest is forthcoming.

A new poll from the Des Moines Register show that roughly 60 percent of Iowans are already exhausted by the 2024 election. The poll found the reasons why Iowans are exhausted vary, ranging from oversaturated media coverage to Iowa’s first-in-the-nation status bringing election coverage and political ads to Iowans sooner than the rest of the nation.

A new poll from the AARP shows more older voters in battleground districts favor Donald Trump over Joe Biden. The poll shows Trump with a 3-point lead over Biden, 48 to 45, when it comes to voters in those areas who are age 50 and older. When it comes to voters of all ages, the two are virtually tied, with Trump holding just a two point lead. That’s within the poll’s margin of error.

New data from Iowa Workforce Development shows the state’s unemployment rate remains unchanged from last month. Iowa’s unemployment rate was 2.8 percent in May. That’s unchanged from April and the same as one year ago. Nationwide, the U.S. unemployment rate increased to 4.0 percent in May. The state’s labor force participation rate fell slightly, to 66.7 percent. That’s down from last month’s 66.8 percent.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture says bird flu has been detected in a commercial turkey flock. The flock is in Sac County in northwest Iowa. It’s the third case of bird flu found in Iowa poultry this year.
