Numbers Game
A researcher has selected a few key items from the federal government’s consumer price index data, posted online for all to see. But put all together like this, it’s striking.
Since the current president took office, gas has gone up by 55.3%. That’s a major item as folks take kids to summertime events, or think about taking a vacation.
Food has shot up, too. Groceries are up 21.2%, while eating out has gone up by 22.2% in just three and a half years.
Baby food is up even more, at 28.4%. And Fido and Fluffy have seen their pet food cost 23% more now than in early 2021.
No wonder so many young people are living with their parents; rent has climbed 21.2%.
Energy costs are up; electricity has climbed by 29%, while natural gas is up 22.2%.
Travel is not easy, either. Used cars now cost 20.9% more under Bidenomics, while airfare is 39.9% higher, and public transportation even costs 27.2% more.
Factor all that in, and the federal government data shows that real average weekly earnings have dropped by 3.9% during the Biden presidency.
So if it seems like you’re falling behind…at least in these categories, you are.
