The King’s Castle
You’ve no doubt heard ads on the radio urging you to protect yourself against fraudsters stealing title to your home, running up debts, or selling the thing out from under you.
Too bad Elvis’ family didn’t hear those ads and take action.
It was in August of 1977 that Elvis Presley, the acclaimed King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, died at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, called Graceland.
Well, at least that’s the story…he might still be a convenience store clerk in Michigan, based on those stories decades ago.
Graceland is in the news this week because it’s apparently going to be sold at foreclosure auction tomorrow…unless a court intervenes before then.
After Elvis passed away, Graceland ultimately became owned by the King’s only child, Lisa Marie Presley…who herself died last year.
A company called Naussany Investments claims Lisa Marie used Graceland as collateral to secure a $3.8 million loan from them in 2018, but died before paying it off. That’s why a foreclosure action was put in place.
But Lisa Marie’s daughter, heir to her mother’s estate, claims there was no such loan and this is all a fraud to steal title to Graceland from her family. She claims the documents are forged, and the person listed as the notary public says she did not notarize the document in question.
A court granted the Presley family an injunction to stop the sale Monday…that’s pending a hearing today.
Graceland is on the National Register of Historic Places, and some 600,000 tourists visit each year.
If even Elvis’ family can lose due to home title fraud…that had better place all of us on notice.
