Fungible Items

Forgive me if I point out another “double standard” coming out of Washington, D.C. – sadly, that’s not news, it’s a daily occurrence.

Remember when the Biden Administration thawed $6 billion of frozen Iranian assets, on the condition it only be used for humanitarian purposes? The Administration denied that it freed up money to be used for terrorism, because those assets were clearly marked “not for terror”.

So why the about face now, when the issue is armaments for Israel? If the Administration wants to make sure these items are not used for an offensive in Rafah, then just say they are only supposed to go for other purposes…I’m sure the Israeli government will make that pledge, just as the Iranian government did with the money.

But if we give them these bombs, the anti-Israel folks in D.C. say, they’ll just move other bombs from other places into a Rafah offensive, so it’s the same as giving them bombs-for-Rafah.

I guess that means this Administration is willing to believe the government of Iran over the government of Israel. If so…why? And if not…help me understand the distinction that requires treating these two things differently.

You could say that we gave more favorable treatment to Israel because they’ve been our closest ally for more than 75 years, since the day the country was founded. But wait…we’re treating Israel, an ally, worse than Iran, the country that took 56 Americans hostage for 444 days back in 1979.

Maybe those in D.C. need a lesson, on how you treat allies better than enemies.

Then again…maybe they already know that, and it’s us who don’t understand who they consider our enemies and allies to be.
