The Typical Mom

Alright, there is no “typical” Mom…by definition, mothers are unique individuals whom we’ll celebrate on Sunday.

But there are some numbers from Edison Research that came across my desk about moms these days that I thought I’d share.

Today’s moms spent an average of 4 hours and 4 minutes using the internet each and every day. Given that 98 percent of moms own a smartphone…it’s probably surprising that amount of time spent on the web isn’t higher.

Nearly half—47 percent—of moms own a smart watch, up 10 percent from last year.

Three-quarters, 75 percent, own wireless earphones or headphones…have to have both hands free to deal with the kids, apparently. And again, we’re talking about earbuds, not big noise cancelling headphones, which I trust also would help mom out on those especially rough days.

We also know that 78 percent of moms have ever listened to a podcast…and 43 percent have done so in the last week alone. And 82 percent of moms have listened to online audio from whatever source within the past week.

And all those photos Mom takes with her smartphone have to go somewhere…97 percent of moms use some type of social media.

So happy mother’s day to all the mothers out there…seems like more of them would have gotten the message by listening to the podcast of this segment, or finding it on the webpage at kxel.com.
