CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A few minutes after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Cedar Rapids Police Department got a 911 call requesting an officer respond to the caller’s home on 31st Street NE in Cedar Rapids. A second 911 call was received when another caller requested for officers to perform a welfare check on the first caller. The second caller said that the first caller was making suicidal and homicidal statements and was armed. Officers with the Cedar Rapids Police Department went to the area and found both callers. Police conducted a high risk approach with the first caller who had a weapon. When officers gave verbal commands for the now-suspect to drop his weapon, the suspect raised his weapon. Three of the officers fired at the suspect who fell to the ground after being hit. Emergency responders responded to the incident and the suspect died at the scene. The second caller was hit by gunfire as well. The second caller was taken to the hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds. No police officers were injured during the shooting. There is no known threat to the community due to the incident. The Cedar Rapids Police Department has asked the Division of Criminal Investigation Major Crime Unit to investigate the officer involved shooting. The Division of Criminal Investigation Laboratory Crime Scene Team helped examine the scene. The identities of the callers and officers involved have not been publicly released.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) -A body was found in Waterloo on Saturday afternoon. According to Captain Jason Feaker, the Waterloo Public Information Officer, people found a dead body on the ground by Corky’s Auto on 435 West Parker Street. Feaker says the body appeared to have been there for sometime. The investigation concerning this incident is ongoing.

MASON CITY, Iowa (KTTC/KCRG) – A Cerro Gordo County sheriff’s deputy has resigned after allegedly posting a photo from an accident scene on social media. In a press release issued Friday, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff Kevin Pals said his office started an investigation Thursday into the alleged posting sent out to members of the public. According to Pals, the deputy being investigated resigned effective Friday. This week, KTTC received an email from a family member of a Mason City man killed in a motorcycle crash on Sunday. The sheriff’s office confirmed the death of 22-year-old Allan Shafer. According to law enforcement, Shafer hit a deer while on his motorcycle early Sunday morning in Plymouth, which is about 15 minutes northeast of Mason City. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Shafer’s uncle told KTTC a sheriff’s deputy took photos of his nephew’s body and posted them on his personal social media. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office is not releasing any additional information about its investigation at this time. Pals did not mention the deputy’s name.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Police said no one was hurt in a fire at a home’s detached garage on the northeast side of Cedar Rapids on Friday. First responders responded to the fire at around 1:37 p.m. The fire was contained to the one detached garage in the 5000 block of Louisa Street NE. Officials said the fire started as a brush fire before it extended to the garage and a small, nearby shed. There were propane tanks inside the garage which exploded during the fire. TV9 viewers reported being able to see the smoke from I-380, which is near the area where the fire happened.
