Police were called to the scene around noon to examine the remains. The remains are being sent to the state medical examiner’s office for identification and cause of death.

Super Tuesday is over and the Iowa Caucus results show no real Democrat opposition to Joe Biden’s re-election bid. 91 percent of Democrats filling out the presidential preference cards backed Biden, with four percent casting what could be seen as a protest vote by saying they are uncommitted. The results released last night gave three percent support to Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips and two percent to Marianne Williamson. The final results, including any last minute votes, is to be released Friday.

A three vote difference appears to be enough for Jill Weigel to win a seat on the Hiawatha City Council. She got 145 votes to challenger C.J. Flynn’s 142 votes. Adam Kirkpatrick got 40 votes. The winner will replace Steve Dodson, who was elected mayor last November.

People in the Marion and Linn-Mar School districts voted on what’s called PPELs–funds used by districts to pay for physical plant upgrades and other equipment expenses. In Marion, 80 percent of voters–and at Linn-Mar, 75 percent of voters–approved the measures.

Benton Community School District voters have agreed to a levy that will generate more than a million dollars for building and safety improvements over the next ten years. The vote passed 56 percent to 44.

The man who was charged in the shooting death of a 32-year-old at a Marion bar last year, is pleading guilty to one of the lesser charges. Duval Walker pleaded guilty to being a felon with a firearm related to the shooting death of Cameron Barnes at “Cocktails and Company” in March of last year. But he’s still to go to trial on first degree murder charges. The jury is still being selected for that.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association is searching for the best pulled pork sandwich through a contest called “Pulled Pork Madness.” People can nominate their favorite pulled pork through Friday. Next week, Iowans can vote on the “Sweet 16” nominations. And the voting and eliminating will continuing through March until a champion is announced on March 29th. The winning restaurant receives $250, a plaque and bragging rights.
