Another Leaves The Race

Texas businessman and pastor Ryan Binkley suspended his campaign for the Republican nomination for president yesterday, and threw his support behind Donald Trump.

That story won’t get much play, because there are many in the media who still didn’t know Ryan Binkley was running for president, and that’s too bad for them…because he had a lot to offer in the conversation.

No, he did not make it to a debate stage. Despite being the first candidate this cycle to reach all 99 Iowa counties, he finished next-to-last in our caucuses, fifth out of six. But he gamely moved on to New Hampshire, then to the Nevada caucuses, then to last Saturday’s South Carolina primary.

You heard him frequently on KXEL, along with all the others who took time out of their lives to make a run. He also told you he committed a large percentage of his liquid wealth to making the run, because he said years ago, God put it on his heart to run for president to restore a moral foundation to the country. He had very specific ideas about how to do that, as well as how to put our nation’s fiscal house in order.

He traveled the state in a full size pickup, with logos along the side. And his wife Ellie was on the trail as well, telling you her compelling story at our KXEL Caucus Cookout event last August.

He is exactly why the current nominating process is such a good thing. He is a decent individual with something to say, specifics on how to lead the nation. And he had the chance to share that vision in the “first four”…now that the campaign moved to dozens of states on one day, like next Tuesday, he saw it was time to continuing serving in a different way.

An impressive individual, and yet another reason why our current system allows all voices to be heard by folks who will listen. It would be better if the national parties would butt out and stop trying to rig the game. But until that happens, we’re glad people like Ryan Binkley do this the right way.
