DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – The 51st Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI, will take riders across the southern part of Iowa in July. Organizers announced Saturday that riders will take off from Glenwood on Sunday, July 21. From there, they’ll make overnight stops in Red Oak, Atlantic, Winterset, Knoxville, Ottumwa, and Mount Pleasant, before making the final stop in Burlington to dip their tires in the Mississippi River on July 27. This year’s ride is a total of 434 miles, and will be 18,741 feet of climb. Organizers say it will be the hilliest ride on record.

CONRAD, Iowa (KCRG) – The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office says a 17-year-old from Conrad is in custody after an investigation into threats made at the BCL-UW High School. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation began on January 25, and it responded to the school at the beginning of the school day on January 26, to provide security while deputies investigated the threats. Deputies also spent the day interviewing students. As a result of that investigation, a 17-year-old from Conrad has been arrested for threats of terrorism, a Class D Felony. The juvenile was booked into the Grundy County Jail and transferred to the juvenile detention center where the individual remains in custody. This case remains under investigation.

CENTERVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – On Friday, January 19, 2024, around 12:50 p.m., Centerville law enforcement and emergency services received a call regarding an injured child on the 1400 block of Drake Avenue. Responding officers and EMS providers discovered 2-year-old Journey Marberry inside the residence with injuries. She was swiftly transported to MercyOne Hospital in Centerville and later transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. On Saturday, January 27, Journey succumbed to her injuries and served a donor to support other families in need. At approximately 12:30 p.m. on the same day, members of the Iowa State Patrol tactical team apprehended 48-year-old Roger Gillespie of Centerville on a warrant for Child Endangerment Causing Death, classified as a class B felony. Gillespie, who was Journey’s caretaker during the incident, was arrested without incident and is presently held in the Appanoose County Jail.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to the 200 block of 27th St. NW just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, for a report of smoke coming from a house. Upon arrival, crews found light smoke showing. Officials say two crew members investigated, and upon entering the house, were met by a member of the Cedar Rapids Police Department bringing an occupant out of the house. That person was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical assistance. Fire crews were able to put the small fire out using pressurized water can. Officials say the smoke alarms in the home were not working. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
