Another morning of iffy driving conditions, thanks to temperatures that are bordering the freezing level, making the pavement either wet, slushy, or icy in spots. A dense fog advisory was issued for last night into this morning for much of eastern Iowa. The National Weather Service says the fog could freeze, leading to slick conditions on untreated surfaces. The advisory may need to be extended later today.

Waukon police say a suspect was arrested in connection to a murder that happened Monday night. The Larimer County Sheriff’s Department reports its deputies arrested 37-year-old Brandon Kasemeier in Loveland, Colorado. He made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon. He’s charged with first degree murder in Jami Kasemeier’s death. She was found dead in her home Monday. More details are expected to be known later today.

Some students are set to return to the classroom today after a deadly school shooting in Perry earlier this month. A 17-year-old student shot and killed a sixth grader and the high school principal. Students haven’t returned to class since the shooting. Elementary students will return today. Middle schoolers will return tomorrow. High schoolers won’t go back until next week. The district will have police officers and mental health resources on site as well as limited points of entry at each building.

Members of the Washington City Council sent a letter to Mayor Jaron Rosien asking for his resignation. Rosien has been on voluntary unpaid leave for nearly a year after being charged with third degree sexual abuse. Last January, a man claimed he was sexually abused by Rosien at a bar. His trial is set to start in May. His mayoral term ends in 2025.

Winter weather continues to have a negative impact on blood donations. ImpactLife provides blood products to more than 120 hospitals, including hospitals in eastern Iowa. The Public Relations Manager for ImpactLife says the nonprofit blood center has lost more than 1,000 donations during the last two weeks due to weather. ImpactLife is at a two-day supply for some blood types and for red blood cells.
