CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Juan Daniel Lopez, a 36-year-old man from Tiffin, was arrested as part of a narcotics investigation. During the investigation, the United States Postal Inspector intercepted a package that was being sent to Lopez. The package was opened, which was allowed by a search warrant. 490 grams of a white powdery substance was found in the package. The substance tested positive for cocaine. More search warrants were issued for Lopez’s vehicles and residence. During the search, law enforcement found packaging materials, digital scales, five firearms, and ammunition. Lopez has been charged with a Controlled Substance Violation, which is a B Felony. Lopez has also been charged with Failure to Affix Drug Stamp, which is a D Felony.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -Just before 10 p.m. Saturday night, the Cedar Rapids Police Department received a report of a shed on fire in the 3800 block of Crestwood Drive Northwest in Cedar Rapids. At the scene, crews found a shed immersed in flames. Part of the shed’s roof had already collapsed into the structure. The firefighters used hose lines from the outside to put out the fire. The shed was completely destroyed by the fire.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Around 9:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department was sent to the 4000 Block of F Avenue Northeast after receiving a report of smoke coming from a single story home. Once the crew arrived at the scene, they saw a little smoke coming from an attic vent. The firefighters entered the home through the front door and found smoke on the first level and a small fire above the bathroom ceiling. The first responders quickly put out the fire and the smoke was removed. Some of the residents were at home during the fire, but no one was injured during the incident. The house sustained both smoke and water damage.

IOWA CITY and AMES, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa football team will be returning to Florida when the 17th-ranked Hawkeyes take on No. 21 Tennessee in the 2024 Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 in Orlando, Florida on ABC. The Hawkeyes will be making their 36th bowl game appearance and their third Citrus Bowl appearance. Iowa finished its season with a 10-3 overall record, winning the Big Ten West Division title. Meanwhile, the Iowa State football team (7-5, 6-3 Big 12) has accepted an invitation to play in the 65th AutoZone Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee. It will be the sixth bowl game in the last seven seasons and the 18th bowl appearance in school history. Iowa State will face Memphis (9-3, 6-2 AAC) on Friday, Dec. 29 on ESPN. Iowa State tied for fourth place in the Big 12 Conference after earning six victories against league foes.
