EAST DUBUQUE, Illinois (KCRG) – For some United Auto Workers in East Dubuque, this year’s Thanksgiving was all about standing up for what they feel are fair wages. “What we’re really looking for here is we would like to see 4% a year for the next four years and we’re looking them to put language in – we don’t have a pension per say, we have a 401k like a lot of other people do, and for one year they took away the 401k match,” said Local 1391 Union President, Doug Glab. “We have since got it back, but that’s essentially what the biggest fight is now is for us to get the language in so they can’t go in through the lifetime of a contract and take away that 401k match.” For over a month now, they have stood along the picket line near the East Dubuque Nitrogen Fertilizer plant. While picketing during a holiday, they hope others can fully understand how serious they are about their demands. They say they are thankful for support and hope for the best in their upcoming meeting with the company on November 28th.

SIOUX COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – A case of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been confirmed in Sioux County. The affected site is a flock of commercial-layer chickens. Officials say poultry products are still safe to eat. As a reminder, consumers should always utilize the proper handling and cooking of eggs and poultry products, including cooking to an internal temperature of 165˚F. Possible cases are required to be reported to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship at (515) 281-5305.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Hy-Vee says Seneca Foods is voluntarily recalling 12 oz. glass jars of Hy-Vee branded Turkey gravy because they actually contain beef gravy. Hy-Vee also says the product could potentially contain a soy allergen which is not declared on the label. Seneca is now retrieving improperly labeled Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy from its distribution system. The recall only affects the Hy-Vee Turkey Gravy product sold by Hy-Vee. No other retailers are affected. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. Seneca says it is not aware of any reports of people getting sick because of the product. Customers with this product should return it for a full refund to the retail outlet where it was purchased. Consumers who want more information may call Seneca Foods Consumer Affairs at 1-800-872-1110.
