More Numbers
A poll released last week of more than 800 likely Republican primary and caucus voters gives us some insight about what these voters think on major issues, including the response to the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7.
The poll was conducted 10 days ago, with a margin of error of 3.46 percentage points. It was conducted by Cygnal on behalf of the Republican Main Street Partnership.
The top two priorities for GOP caucus and primary voters are inflation and immigration. Overall, 41 percent of voters cited inflation as the top issue, while 23 percent listed immigration.
That “top choice” is different for older voters; those age 65 and over are most concerned about immigration, with 68 percent listing it as their main concern. Women overall are slightly more concerned about inflation than men, with 44 percent of women ranking it as their most important issue, versus 38 percent of men.
78 percent say they are well-informed of the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with three quarters saying they have been following the events since the terrorist attack at least somewhat closely. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is viewed very favorably by the group, 39 percent net favorable. But women and those under 50 are more likely to view him unfavorably.
Two-thirds of GOP voters have a positive opinion of Israel. In light of the terrorist attack, only 11 percent say their opinion of Israel has weakened, while 27 percent say their opinion has grown stronger toward the Jewish state.
More than three-quarters say Israel’s military incursion into Gaza is justified, while a plurality of those surveyed say the U.S. should provide weapons and financial aid to Israel.
Now that voters have indicated their preferences on issues…we’ll see if candidates at all levels will be responsive.
