WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – The Waterloo Police Department is reporting several complaints of a possible phone scam regarding their non-emergency number. Callers reported receiving a call from the non-emergency number of 319-291-4340 which then asked them to contact a detective/officer at a different phone number. Police are warning that the phone number is not associated with the Waterloo Police Department and should be considered a fraudulent number. Other law enforcement agencies have also reported similar scams involving perpetrators posing as law enforcement officers. Officials are reminding the public that no law enforcement agency will contact someone directly and demand money. Anyone who receives a phone call like this should hang up immediately.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Police in Cedar Rapids are investigating after gunshots were fired early Monday morning on the city’s southwest side. In a release, police said they were called to the 2200 block of Fruitland Boulevard SW at about 1:21 a.m. for a report of gunshots. Investigators said they found property shell casings in the roadway and a property in the area was damaged. They’re asking that anyone with information, or security camera footage, contact them at 319-286-5491. People may also be able to receive a financial reward if they submit a tip to Linn County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-272-7463.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A pedestrian was hit and killed Sunday afternoon in the 1400 block of Memorial Drive SE in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Rapids resident Kyle Kubite, 45, was driving on Memorial Drive SE at about 4:45 p.m. Sunday when police say his vehicle hit two pedestrians, one adult male and one adult female. Both were taken to a local hospital, where the female pedestrian was pronounced deceased. The male pedestrian received non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was uninjured. URBANDALE, Iowa (KCRG) – A semi-truck driver has been charged with vehicular homicide and OWI after hitting and killing a tow truck driver. Sunday night at approximately 10:00 p.m., Urbandale Police responded to mile marker 130 on I-80 westbound for a report of an accident. According to investigators, a tow truck operator was getting out of his tow vehicle to help with the crash when a semi-truck, which did not slow down or move over, struck the man. The victim, Joshua Villa of Urbandale, died as a result of the crash. The driver of the semi, identified as Dmytro Prysich, was arrested and charged with Unsafe Approach, Fail to Slow Down Upon Approach to Stationary Vehicle with 4-way Hazards Activated – Resulting in Death, Leaving the Scene of a Death Accident, Vehicular Homicide/OWI.
