There They Go Again

Fresh off another disastrous election day, fresh off getting outspent in virtually every corner of the country in that election, fresh off a third controlled presidential candidate debate…the Republican National Committee has done it again.

The RNC, in its passion for power, has rigidly controlled—and ruined—the debate process. Dare to stray from their draconian rules, and they won’t let you play in their sandbox. We’ve seen that in play multiple times already in this cycle.

Now comes word that they won’t stand for an Iowa-based evangelical group to have all the candidates in one place at the same time for a conversation about faith. The event has been held in the past, with great success in terms of content, and of course, fund-raising for the sponsoring entity.

Campaigns got a letter saying that if any of the candidates participate in the Iowa joint appearance around a table, they can kiss goodbye any invitation to future officially sanctioned debates.

The cynical side of me thinks that since the conversation moderator has endorsed Gov. Ron DeSantis, perhaps a Donald Trump-controlled RNC doesn’t want to allow the conversation to even happen…but I think it’s just the RNC’s power grab mentality striking again.

If the RNC’s track record the past several years had been one of success, then it might be easier to swallow their line of “do what we say, we know better than you”…but of course, it is not. And that makes their heavy-handed efforts even more pathetic.
