Follow The Money

I am writing and recording this Tuesday afternoon, before we know the election results on some key issues around the country.

One trend that has developed this election, however, is the huge amount of money spent by Democrats in key areas…often far outpacing the money spent by Republicans.

For example, in the race for Kentucky governor, Democrats supporting the incumbent have outspent Republicans $48 million to $43.3 million.

Control of the Virginia legislature has been a key point this session; would the GOP hold on to majority of the lower chamber, and perhaps add the upper chamber? If so, with a Republican governor, the right to life is at issue there. And Democrat pro-abortion money is present, with the GOP being outspent in legislative races by $35.2 million to $27.6 million.

Meanwhile, Democrats have outspent Republicans in the New Jersey legislature by four times…$8.7 million spent by Democrats, only $2.1 million by Republicans.

The pro-abortion money is on further display in Ohio, where citizens voted on an abortion amendment to the Constitution…pro-abortion spending of $24.6 million, compared with pro-life spending of $16.3 million.

Election to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court has also garnered a lot of attention; that Court was pivotal in the 2020 election review. Democrats have outspent Republicans there too, $10.1 million to $7.5 million.

Spending the most money doesn’t mean election success. But it helps to get the word out. And it shows there are lots of folks with apparently lots of money to throw at issues and candidates supported by the political left…that’s a key factor to consider when contemplating the 2024 election cycle.
